More than half of this book is dedicated to describing research that shows that males are more confident than females. After reading one example after another, I was left feeling that there was not much hope for females when it came to learning confidence. Only chapters 6-8 cover how females can raise their confidence level (or, in the case of chapter 7, how you can raise a confident daughter), and even then the advice is basically limited to "Be willing to fail. Take action. Feel the fear and do it anyway." If you really want to know how to raise your confidence level and get along in society, reading "The Charisma Myth" might be time better spent. I was shocked this was reviewed so well. I'm a therapist. I made it halfway through before I was utterly disgusted. There are some WILD leaps in the research and their conclusions and some seriously bad reading of research. I specialize in PTSD and the women stated that CBT is an effective approach for PTSD?! I'm sorry, but that's absolutely untrue. There's a lot of self-congratulatory statements in here and some silly dithering over "test" results. It's like there is no differentiation between hard science and pop psychology. This is pop psychology and not even good pop psychology. I'm sad because this is a real issue and it needs to be addressed-but this is not the book I'd suggest.
